I am an Associate Professor in Biostatistics at the Faculty of Chemistry, Biotechnology and Food Science (KBM) at NMBU. I have a Master’s degree in Applied Mathematics and a PhD in Bioinformatics. My academic background combines statistical modeling, sequence data analysis, and method development.
My current research focuses on environmental bioinformatics and metagenomics, particularly on how to analyze complex microbial communities in environmental samples. I am interested in uncovering microbial diversity, including organisms that remain unclassified using standard taxonomic methods. A key goal is to improve the usability and interpretability of microbiome data, especially from challenging datasets related to environmental microbiota.
In addition to research, I am passionate about teaching and pedagogical development in statistics. I have taught both introductory and advanced courses and work continuously to adapt statistical education to the needs of today’s students. My teaching philosophy emphasizes active learning and student ownership of the learning process.
I also coordinate the Biostatistics advising service at NMBU, which provides support in experimental design, data analysis, interpretation, and presentation for research projects across the life, natural, and biosciences. The service is part of the Bioinformatics and Applied Statistics (BIAS) research group.
