Renewable energy
Research into renewable energy at MINA has an interdisciplinary character, and the professional environment has a visible position within energy system analyses, bioenergy and sustainable energy. We have good cooperation with complementary research environments, companies and authorities.

Forest sciences
NMBU and MINA have researched and taught forestry for more than 100 years. The faculty houses the country's largest professional community within forest and nature management. Our expertise covers the entire field, from ecology, forest treatment and technology, mapping, the wood's properties and possibilities of use, as well as forest economics.
Examples of research projects:
- circWood - Consequences of increased use of reclaimed wood
- Climate Smart Forestry Norway
- ECOFOREST - Forestry effects on biodiversity, carbon stocks and ecological processes in mature boreal forests
The research within the collection and analysis of data for various ecosystem services linked to forests and other land use is internationally leading. The research activity is described in more detail here: forestinventory.no | Forest Inventory and Monitoring Research Group at NMBU-MINA. The research group is a key part of the research centre SmartForest – We will work smarter, more efficiently and with more precision in forestry.
The section has two research groups within forest sciences: forestry (leader: Brunner) and forest inventory and monitoring (leader: Næsset).
