My core expertise is the study of enzyme mechanisms using physicochemical techniques and methodologies with a special emphasis on kinetics, thermodynamics, analytics, and spectroscopy. A central topic is to correlate kinetic and thermodynamic signatures of substrate and inhibitor interactions to enzyme active sites with enzyme mode of action and use this information to improve enzyme activity. Central is also the development of new analytical techniques to further elucidate enzyme actions. I have a special interest in carbohydrate active enzymes such as glycoside hydrolases (GHs) and lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs). I teach three different chemistry classes at NMBU, an introduction course, general chemistry, and physical chemistry. In 2021, I was appointed as an Excellent Teaching Practitioner at NMBU.
