Background from molecular microbiology with interest in employing model organisms such as C. elegans to study molecular mechanisms of environmental stressors such as ionizing radiation, metal toxicity and nanoparticles. In addition, certain developmental stages or cell types are more vulnerable to ionizing radiation. The aim of umbrella 3 is to characterize and compare biological effects of gamma radiation in selected model species. Using a standardized set of effects endpoints, including molecular analysis, we aim to identify traits that determine the radiosensitivity of our model organisms.
