I have a general interest in organic chemistry and in particular biologically active compounds. My publications include insect pheromone synthesis, antifouling agents, syntheses of terpenes, steroids, and fatty acid derivatives such as oxygenated EPA and DHA. In addition I have publications in carbohydrate synthesis, enzyme activity, microwave spectroscopy and organometallic compounds (iron carbenes). At present lipid chemistry, and in particular natural products and bioactive fatty acid derivatives, is the main target for our research. We are also looking at the use of small rings (cyclopropanes and cyclobutanes) and the exploitation of these in synthesis of interesting compounds. We are also using flow chemistry and microwave as tools to get the new compounds. Teaching is concentrated in courses in basic and extended organic chemistry, organic spectroscopy and natural products.
