As part of the EU's CuBE Synergy project, I am working on unravelling the molecular mechanisms of polysaccharide oxidation by unique, copper enzymes called lytic polysaccharide monooxygenases (LPMOs). I am also building on the findings of CuBE to design new copper-enzymes that selectively oxidise C-H groups on novel substrates using recent protein design tools (Rfdiffusion, AlphaFold) followed by testing using biochemical techniques (spectroscopy, electrochemistry, mass spectrometry, HPLC).
