I am a Professor of Forest Policy and Economics at NMBU, holding a D.Sc. (Econ.) in Management Science from Aalto University, Finland. At NMBU, I teach Forest Economics (SKOG230) and Forest Sector Modelling (SKOG300) and supervise M.Sc. and Ph.D. theses on forest economics, markets, and policy.
Throughout my career, I have conducted policy-relevant economic research and consulting across a wide range of forest-sector topics. These include competition analyses in wood markets and the forest industry, decision-making under uncertainty, trade and trade policies, biodiversity conservation economics, wood-based energy policies and developments, and the role of forest-based sectors in climate change mitigation and bio-economy. I have developed and applied several forest-sector models, both national and global ones (e.g., EFI-GTM and FORMEQ).
At NMBU, my research focuses on the impacts of climate and environmental policies on the forest-based sector in the EU and Norway, as well as on developments in the forest-based bio-economy. In the Climate Smart Forestry Norway (CSFN) project, I lead work on the role of carbon substitution and storage effects of wood-based products in climate change mitigation within the Norwegian forest sector. In the project Leakage Impacts of the EU’s Climate and Biodiversity Policies on the Global Forest Sector and Its Sustainability, we examine how EU environmental policies influence global forest sector dynamics.
I am a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the European Forest Institute and serve as the deputy coordinator of the Forest Sector Analysis unit within the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO). I am a member in the editorial/advisory boards of Forest Policy and Economics, Journal of Forest Economics, and Silva Fennica.
