About the project: FutureProteinCrops (2022-2025, funded by FFL/JA and industry) has investigated the potential to increase domestic production of field pea and faba bean. The background of the project was an increasing market interest for plant protein products.

The seminar will be held digitally on Teams in the afternoons of November 25th and 26th at 12.00 – 15.30.

The aims of the project have been twofold:

1: To develop knowledge and materials that can be the base of a possible future Norwegian plant breeding in these crops.

2: To solve important agronomic challenges through improved management practices to achieve stable high yields of optimal quality under Norwegian climatic conditions.

The project covers a broad range of research activities, and some main topics are listed below:

  • Variety testing
  • Investigations of plant physiological traits important for agronomic performance,
  • In-depth study of yield stability
  • Modern field phenotyping using multispectral imaging
  • Investigations of genetic diversity to optimize breeding strategies, and use of genetic markers
  • Improve management practices, related to establishment, avoidance of soil compaction, and harvest strategies
  • Integrated pest management
  • Quality analyses of protein and starch
  • Analyses of antinutrients such as tannins, and vicin/convicin in faba bean.

About the seminar: A detailed program will be announced in October.

On Tuesday  November 25th the focus will be on experimental results, and presentations will be held in English. On Wednesday November 26th, the focus will be on impacts for the Norwegian value chains and future perspectives. These presentations and discussions will be held in Norwegian.

Save the dates now! More information with detailed program registration will come!
