Located in Rjukan - the birthplace of hydropower in Norway. Full details to follow.

The town of Rjukan in Norway's Telemark district is the perfect place to discuss labour, energy and place. Located in a narrow valley between high mountains, Rjukan is the birthplace of hydropower in Norway. It was the focus of sabotage actions to stop the development of heavy water and atomic power in WW2, and is also a key historical centre for labour organization.

Whilst Rjukan has been struggling for some time with a dwindling population and industry, the town is now the site of fresh initiatives to use its access to sources of energy for new forms of circular economy, linking hydrogen production and fish farming.

Co-organized by INCLUDE at the University of Oslo, the Fridtjof Nansen Institute and the Rjukan Solarpunk Academy
