Document your financing

Who must document financing?

The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration requires that citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA-area and Switzerland can provide documentation of financial ability, i.e. a minimum amount of money required to cover living expenses for each academic year in Norway.

Please note that applicants who do not provide satisfactory documentation of financing within the application deadline will be considered ineligible for admission regardless of their academic qualifications.

Required amount

The amount is set by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration and is NOK 116,369 (one hundred and sixteen thousand three hundred and sixty nine) for the academic year 2018/2019. The amount is subject to change annually. The required amount can be documented in the currency of your choice.

When must financing be documented?

Prelimary documentation of financing must be submitted at the time of application for admission. This process is described in detail below.

If you are offered admission, the required amount must be transferred to a Norwegian deposit account in connection with the student residence permit application. Instructions for the funds transfer are provided with the admission offer.

How to document financing for the admission application?

Financing must be documented in one of the following ways:
■A recent official bank statement in the applicant's name.
■A sponsor guarantee letter and sponsor’s recent official bank statement. The sponsor should be aware that the required amount must be available as soon as the applicant is admitted. Sponsor's letter and documentation to be submitted by the applicant.
■A letter confirming that you are eligible for a scholarship/student loan from your home country.

Sponsors

Applicants may receive financial support from a sponsor. A guarantee from a sponsor is a letter in which the sponsor states that they are willing to transfer the required amount upon the applicant's admission to NMBU and must include a recent bank statement showing that the money is available. The sponsor guarantee must be provided by the application deadline and submitted by the applicant.
