You have received a NORSTIP Scholarship - What's next?

  • 1. Accept the offers

    Firstly, you need to ensure that you have accepted your offer of admission and accepted your offer of a NORSTIP scholarship before the stipulated deadlines. Instructions are included in the emails you have received from our Admission's Office and your NORSTIP coordinator.

  • 2. Apply for housing

    It is important that you apply for housing through SiÅs - the housing department. There are limited rooms and so you need to secure housing fast. When you fill in the housing application, remember to note that you are a NORSTIP scholarship student and reference your NORSTIP coordinator - Tendai C. Bengtsson in the comment field that asks for this. It is almost impossible to find housing off campus housing from abroad and we therefore, encourage all our new international students to live on-campus in student housing for the first year of studies.

  • 3. Apply for your study permit - before June 1st

    https://www.nmbu.no/en/studies/first-time-study-permitApplying for a residence permit for studies in Norway through the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) requires two steps,registration of a digital application. Secondly submitting your documents to a Norwegian embassy or VFS centre, providing biometric data and paying the application fee. Note that acquiring an appointment to submit documents can take time as appointments are typically fully booked so you must apply early to arrive on campus on time for the start of studies. Application fee will be reuimbursed upon arrival in Norway. Remember that the processing time is lengthy for permit applications but if you submit early, you can expect to arrive in time for the Introduction Week.

    Remember to ensure that you have provided all the necessary documents outlined in the document check-list when you are going to submit your documents. You do not need to show any economic funds as your scholarship award letter is documentation for this.

    Note that once your permit is approved, the embassy or VFS centre will need to issue you a one-time entry visa to allow you to travel to Norway. Upon arrival in Norway and during the Orientation Week, we will arrange for a visit the local police where your study permit will be acivated and you will receive a residence permit card.

  • 4. Email your preferred travel dates

    If your permit is approved, email your NORSTIP coordinator your preferred dates of travel so that your ticket can be purchased by your coordinator. Note that your scholarship covers flights up to a maximum of NOK30,000 and any last minute flight changes due to missing flights, could be incurred by you. Make sure you remember to take your passport when you are leaving!

  • 5. Orientation Week 4-8 August 2025

    It is essential that you attend the Orientation Week as you will be provided in-depth information regarding your semester, course and general registrations. It is also the easiest setting for you to establish friendships and networks.
