Lithuania is part of Northern Europe and has a population of 2.8 million. Lithuania has a rich cultural life with a lively drama scene, various film festivals and a long history in pieces of classical music. The capital Vilnius is home to one of the oldest universities in Europe. In the 1300s, Lithuania was the largest country in Europe, and was in the 1990s the first country to declare its independence from the former Soviet Union. Today there is extensive cooperation between Norway and Lithuania in many sectors, including health, education, transport and culture.
