Sudden illness during your exam

If you become suddenly ill during your written exam and have to leave before you have finished your examination answer you have three options:

1. Submit a medical certificate

If you plan to visit a doctor to obtain a medical certificate for your sudden illness you must leave the examination room without submitting your exam answer or the completed cover sheet (pen and paper exam).

If you get sick during the exam and want to withdraw from a WISEflow exam, you should not submit anything in WISEflow.

The form Sudden illness during exam (the examination guards have the form) must be filled in before your leave. The examination guards will hand in the form to the examination office for further processing.

Remember! A valid medical certificate must contain the following:

  • Date/time of your absence
  • What exam/course, with course code, the certificate applies to
  • The certificate must state that you became suddenly ill during your exam
  • The certificate must be signed and stamped by the doctor or another medical professional

A valid medical certificate must be submitted within five (5) days of the exam in question via the electronic application form Registration of valid absence.  You can also send the certificate by post to: Arkivet NMBU, PB 5003, 1432 Ås.

If you submit a valid medical certificate you will be registered with a valid reason for absence for the exam in question, the exam will not be counted as an attempt of examination, and you may register for re-examination (konte) if such an exam is offered for the course.

2. Submit your exam answer

If you like to submit you exam answer for marking you may do so. The marking will be the result for that exam. For an exam completede with pen and paper, you or the guard may add to you answer/cover sheet that you got ill and therefor could not answer all the questions if this is the case.

For a WISEflow exam you submit your answer.

Please note: If you submit a medical certificate after your exam, the certificate will not be valid. The result for that exam will overrule the certificate, no matter the mark. If you fail the exam you may register for re-examination (konte) if such an exam is offered for the course.

3. Submit a blank exam answer

Submit a blank exam answer - pen and paper

If you like to submit a blank exam answer you may do so. For a campus based exam completed with pen and paper only the cover sheet should be completed and handend in. You will fail the exam and use an examination attempt. However you may register for re-examination (konte) if such an exam is offered for the course. Please note: If you submit a certificate after your exam, the certificate will not be valid.

Submit a blank exam answer - WISEflow exam

If you like to submit a blank exam answer you may do so. For a WISEflow exam you must be logged in to WISEflow and either click the 'submit blank' button, or upload a blank file to hand in. Otherwise you will be registered as no show and will not be able to sit for re-examination. Please note that not all courses offer a re-examination. Please note: If you submit a certificate after your exam, the certificate will not be valid.

Illness or valid absence prior to exam

If you cannot sit for your exam due to illness or other valid absence known prior to the exam other rules apply.
