NMBU has an overall strategic commitment for the strategy period 2019 – 2023: "Joint efforts for a sustainable future". As part of the development of NMBU as a "Sustainability University", a long-term initiative is now being launched to help increase the University's sustainability competence and make use of research, teaching, innovation and dissemination – "NMBU Sustainability Arenas for Outstanding Research, Education and Innovation" (short form: NMBU Sustainability Arenas). The NMBU Sustainability Arenas will start up in spring 2021.The announcement presupposes budget decisions.
Internal seed funding is an annual announcement which will inspire new projects that have "interdisciplinary collaboration for sustainability". The seed funding will contribute to the realization of the NMBU strategy, and will ensure that one or more of the UN sustainable development goads (SDGs) influence the foundation of the projects and start alliances that will be important hubs for knowledge.
NMBU announces funds for research infrastructure at NMBU on an annual basis. The annual allocation is approximately 7-7.5 MNOK and is advertised in the autumn term. The Research Support Office administers funds on behalf of the university. This is subject to budgetary decisions by the University Board.
NMBU ønsker å identifisere større infrastrukturplattformer av strategisk interesse. Plattformer som kommer på en slik liste forventes å søke om eksterne midler fra Forskningsrådet og EU og vil få prioritet ved tildeling av interne midler i to år. NMBU har etablert en ordning for bistand i tidligfase utvikling av forskningsidéer. Det er satt av årlig 500 000 kr, og man kan søke om støtte på inntil 100 000 per prosjekt. Løpende søknadsfrist.
NMBU's funding scheme for research stays abroad applies to academic staff on sabbatical leave and also PhD candidates and Postdoctoral fellows appointed either in a KD-funded recruitment position or in a Faculty-funded position, and Residents.
The foundation was established following the merger of a number of foundations at the former Agricultural University of Norway (NLH and UMB). We are obliged to continue the original creators' intentions and interests.
