The main pupose of the research group is to generate new knowledge an disseminate insights in the field of water and water treatment. The group carries out research in the interface between the subjects of water, environment, technology, medicine, biology and social sciences.

Water and Environmental Engineering

Water is of vital importance in our society. Good and safe water quality is essential for life and for maintaining our high standard of living.

Along with the rest of the staff at NMBU the research group in Water and Environmental Tecnology has assumed a special responsibility for research and teaching aimed at meeting the major global issues of environment, sustainable development, improved public health, climate challenge, renewable energy, food production and resource management.


The research group aims to be an innovative and competitive knowledge center within engineering in the following four areas:

  • Cleaning technology
  • Urban hydrology
  • Water, sanitation and health in developing countries
  • Innovation and business
