We research bacteriocins, a group of antimicrobial proteins that target bacteria. Our goal is to both understand the basic science of bacteriocins, and to apply this knowledge towards the development of, e.g., novel drugs.
We research lactic acid bacteria used in the production of dairy products, an important source of vitamin K2. Our goals include optimizing vitamin K2 production, and studying the health benefits of vitamin K2 rich cheese.
We research the transmission and establishment of gut bacteria within a host population, in addition to host-bacterial coevolution. We are also interested in using bacteria as indicators of environmental and human health.
