This course is aimed at research workers performing experiments on animals. The structure of the course is based upon FELASA C requirements, and is mandatory for many research workers.

The course consists of the following: pre study time, one week of obligatory lectures, minimum 21 hours of practical training, revision and study time before examination, 2 hours written examination; total amount of course work is a minimum of 80 hours. The course, starting with the pre course study and finishing with the examination is spread over a 6 week continuous period including one week attendance at NMBU, campus Adamstuen.
The Aims are to teach the participants the basics of laboratory animal science which includes biology, handling, anesthesia/analgesia, euthanasia, health monitoring, infections, design of studies, ethics, humane endpoints etc.
The course will finish with a two hour exam at the NMBU, campus Adamstuen. The participants are expected to spend time revising for the exam and the practical training must be carried out and completed before the examination.
The participants will have to undertake a minimum of 21 hours of practical training supervised by a named Veterinary Surgeon, working with laboratory animals. Each participant is personally responsible for finding a suitable supervisor that is willing to provide the obligatory minimum of 21 hours training. If necessary it is possible to arrange for practical training at NMBU, campus Adamstuen. Guidelines for the training will be provided after the registration deadline.
