Water and Environmental Technology (M-VM), Machinery-, Process- and Product Development (M-MP), Industrial Economics (M-IØ).
The course expands on the syllabus of FYS210 Fluid Dynamics, and uses the theory from that course for analysing and designing transport systems (water distribution systems, ventilation systems etc.). Unsteady flow problems, hydraulic transients and control of such are covered. Pumps and pumping stations, turbines, fans, pipe systems and networks. The course has a compulsory laboratory component. The laboratory exercises cover forces upon moving vanes or blades, turbo machinery, analysis of hydraulic transients, software for analysing and dimensioning pipeline transport systems etc.
On completion of the course, the students should be able to analyse and design transport systems for fluids. The knowledge may be applied to VA-systems, hydraulic systems and pipeline transport systems (ventilation systems).
The course comprises lectures, calculation exercises and laboratory exercises including reporting. The students work in groups in the laboratory.
The teacher/teaching assistant will be available for help and advice in ordinary office hours. The students can also use e-mail for guidance and help throughout the entire teaching period.

Knowledge in fluid dynamics equivalent to FYS210 - Fluid Dynamics.
Excursion. All laboratory exercises with reports. Six out of eight reports must be approved to attend the written examination.

The course is primarily designed for students aiming for a Master"s degree in Water- and Environmental Engineering or Machinery- and Process Engineering, but is also useful for other technology students.
The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidate¿s exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
