TMPP350C Process control
Showing course contents for the educational year 2018 - 2019 .
Course responsible: Pål Johan From
Teachers: Odd Ivar Lekang
ECTS credits: 5
Faculty: Faculty of Science and Technology
Teaching language: NO
Teaching exam periods:
Fall semester. This course is a seminar in the middle of the semester due overlap with TMPP350. Both lectures and excersises are held in this period.
Course frequency: Annually
First time: Study year 2015-2016
Last time: 2018H
The class let the students see the connection between process and control. This includes visualization of processes in schematic form (P&ID). P&ID diagrams for the most important processes will be studied. The students will be able to draw P&ID based on real processes, and make real processes based on P&ID diagrams.
Advanced control theory for processes will be studied. The students will be introduced to Laplace transformation and their applications to control. Stability analysis of controllers. Model based controller and predictive controllers are studied in detail.
The course will give the student knowledge on how to draw and understand P&ID diagrams and advanced controllers for process control.
The teaching is a combination of lectures/seminars, self-study, group work and exercises. Problem-based learning (PBL) is central.
The teacher/s is/are available for extra support and advice during office hours, and can also be reached by telephone and e-mail.
The syllabus is handed out when the course starts.
TEL240 - Automation and Control, or equivalent
FYS 251 - Heat transfer and energy, FYS210 - Hydrodynamics, TPS210 - Engineering Fluid Mechanics.
One compulsory excersise. Two compulsory lab reports.
Evaluation is based on exercises and lab. Pass/Fail
Lectures/seminars: approx. 30 hours. Exercises: approx. 60 hours. Lab exercises: approx. 60 hours.
Special requirements in Science
Reduction of credits:
There is complete overlap with TMPP350, i.e., 100% reduction in study points.
Type of course:
Lectures and project guidance: 4 hours per week
The examiner participates in discussions about the organisation of the oral examination, and he is a co-examiner. The examiner takes part in the yearly revision of the course. The final examination is carried out according to a standardised set of criteria. The criteria used, as well as assessment and the results which are achieved in each field, are made available to the individual student.
