(NO=norsk, EN=Engelsk)
Limits of class size:
40
Teaching exam periods:
This course starts in Spring parallel. This course has teaching/evaluation in Spring parallel, .
Course frequency: Annually
First time: Study year 2015-2016
Preferential right:

Technology(M-MPP, M-IØ)

Course contents:

The course consists of a 4 hours lectures and 2 hours exercises pr. week. The lectures include, among other things, braking theory, steering and geometry of wheel suspension, transmission theory, engine theory with emmisions and interaction between engine and transmission. An introduction to vibration analyses and traffic accident analysis is also given.

External lecturers from the vehicle sector is also used.

Learning outcome:

After the course has been completed, students will have gained competence in design of brakes and wheel suspension of simple vehicles. The students should be familiar to the factors affecting driving resistance and be able to choose engine and transmission to accomplish wanted vehicle behavior, fuel consumption and emmision parameters. In addition they should be able to do simple vibration analyses, propose actions to reduce vibration problems and have gained competence in traffic accident analysis.

Learning activities:
The course is based on a combination of lectures, demonstrations and written assignments. The students will applay their skills in engineering design to construct combined vehicle elements.
Teaching support:
Exercises are followed up by supervision. The teacher is available for support via e-mail and during given office hours.
Syllabus:
Terjesen, Geir, 2015: Maskin- og kjøretøydynamikk. Compendium for the course TMP271 , 1432 Ås, 200 pages (compendium under preparation)
Prerequisites:

The course is adjusted to students that have completed their fundamental technological and engineering courses.

Recommended prerequisites:

TMP220 and TBM250 or equivalent from other institution.

Mandatory activity:

22 compulsory assignments must be approved, before the student takes the written examination.

Assessment:

Three hour written exam. 22 compulsory assignments must be approved before the student can enter the exam. The exam is a test of the students skills with regard to calculation and engineering design tasks.

Nominal workload:

Lectures with homework, 100 hours

Compulsory assignments, 200 hours.

Entrance requirements:

Special requirements in Science

Reduction of credits:

This course overlap TMP270 with 5 SP.

Students who wants this overlap must do all the compulsory assignments of TMP 271.

Type of course:

Lectures: 50 hours, 4-hours pr. week.

Exercises: 30 hours, 2-hours pr. week

Note:
The course is a profile subject for students from their forth year of study and requires that their fundamental technological courses in Machine Design, Process and Product Development are done. Alternatively students from other colleges with bachelor in machine design.
Examiner:
The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidate¿s exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
