Course contents:
Decentralized Water and Sanitary Systems are highly appropriate in rural areas. In urban areas such systems are increasingly interesting especially in connection to "green and smart" cities development. Storm water handling through " blue-green" structures is also designed based on similar principles as natural systems for wastewater treatment. This course builds on THT383 in the August block and expands on the different issues of THT383. In addition, aspects of nutrient recycling to agriculture is covered and design of blue-green urban stormwater systems is given more emphasis than in THT383. The course expands the understanding of natural and recycling systems for wastewater handling. Co-generation of fertilizer and bioenergy from blackwater and organic waste as well as agricultural aspects of reuse of treated waste is explored. The students will work in teams solving real cases. The cases will be presented in seminars and supplemented with lectures. The main focus will be on groundwater protection and supply, and on natural systems (soil infiltration, wetlands and ponds), source separating systems for wastewater treatment as well as blue-green stormwater treatment. The course views technology in a systems perspective where green "circular" economy becomes increasingly important.
Learning outcome:
The students will have an in depth understanding of groundwater supply, natural and source separating systems for wastewater handling and blue green systems for stormwater handling. They will have the necessary skills to be able to design small water supply systems based on groundwater or rainwater harvesting as well as design and implement small natural and source separating systems for wastewater treatment and stormwater handling.

Written exam counts for 50% and term papers count for 50%. Written exam will be of three hours. Continuous exam: A- E / not passed.

Lectures: 92 class hours. 8 days of 7 hours per day, 6x4 hour seminars,  6 weekly two hour lectures. Demonstrations/excursions minimum 2 days.
The external examiner will assess all examinations. The examiner actively assures the quality of the course content and teaching.
