Course contents:
The course focuses on environmentally conscious building construction, choice of material, energy-saving, climate adaptation and sustainable management of existing buildings. Reuse and renovation of existing buildings are central. The topic is also discussed in relation to cultural monument considerations. There will be compulsory exercises and a more extensive planning assignment.
Learning outcome:
Upon completion, the student should be able to evaluate different conditions regarding possible renewal or renovation of existing buildings versus new buildings. The students should have knowledge about various criteria to consider during the process, such as material use and durability, function, management costs, operation (e.g. energy use) and maintenance, aesthetics and cultural monument considerations, ecology etc.
Learning activities:
Several compulsory exercises and a more extensive planning assignment.
Teaching support:
The teacher is available for academic supervision during office hours.

Assessment:
Several written assignments will together form the basis for the grade in the course. The large assignment counts 50 % of the grade.
Nominal workload:
For a course of 10 credits, the nominal workload is 300 hours, which means that ca. 15 hours of work should be expected per week in addition to structured teaching.

Type of course:
There will be six hours of structured teaching per week.
Examiner:
An external examiner participates in the assessment of a random selection of examination candidates. The external examiner will mainly be used for quality assurance of the teaching arrangements.
