The course starts in the spring semester. Teaching and evaluation is in the spring semester.
Course frequency: Annually, but not in 2018.

The goal of the course is to give the student a comprehensive introduction to a specific area in applied statistics. The topic will vary from year to year, but the focus will be biostatistics. The topic for 2018 is not yet decided, and will be annonced later.
After completing the course the student should have a good overview of the particular applied area. The student should be able to use the methods of the area to analyze data and make computations at an advanced level of complexity.
Lectures and exercises / computer exercises.
The teacher will be available for questions either in person or via email (firstname.lastname@example.org). The course`s webpages will be regularly updated .
Selected chapters from "A Statistical Approach to Genetic Epidemiology", Ziegler and König, Second edition, Wiley-Blackwell (2010).
STAT100 or corresponding knowledge.
The student will have to complete obligatory tasks to be approved for the course and to be allowed to take the final written exam. Students who fail the course need to perform these tasks again.
Oral exam, with a pass/fail grade.
Lectures: 28 hours. Exercises: 28 hours. Self study: 94 hours.

The course will focus on various subject areas that is not covered, or only lightly covered, in other STAT- or BIN- courses. The contents of the course will thus vary from year to year.
The course is only given if resources are available.
An external examiner evaluates the oral exam.
