Course contents:
  • Basic ditribution theory (Binomial, Poisson, normal, t, F and Chi square distribution).
  • Multvariate and marginal distributions, transfomations.
  • Population mean, variance, covariance, correlation and independence.
  • Estimation, confidence interval and hypothese testing.
  • Linear models (ANOVA, Regression) by marix noation.
Learning outcome:

KNOWLEDGE: Students will learn the ideas in probability and statistics beyond the basics. They will become familiar with the conditions for, and use of, statistical methods, especially regression, used to make conclusions about general populations on the basis of population samples.

SKILLS: Students should be able to perform statistical analyses and understand the mathematical basis. They should be able to interpret the results of the analyses and report on what has been done,  the results and the weaknesses and limitations of the analyses.

GENERAL COMPETENCY: The students will be able to apply what they have learned in real-life problems in their study and later in their professional life and perform analyses on their own data. In addition, they should be able to ask critical questions about the mathematical assumptions for the analyses.

Learning activities:
Lectures, exercsises and self study.
Teaching support:
Lectures, exercises and individual supervision. Canvas.
Will be given at semester start.
