Course contents:
The course will focus on what we know about diet and its relation to health, with focus on the most serious public health challenges such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and metabolic disease. The course will give an insight into how studies on diet and nutrition in humans are performed, and how results from various studies are implemented for public recommendations on diet. Furthermore, the course will also cover the importance of diet in different life phases (from pregnancy to elderly).
Learning outcome:
Students will be updated on current knowledge about the relationship between diet and reduced or increased risk for health problems or disease.

Selected chapters from "Human Nutrition", 12th Edition, Geissler and Powers, 2011.
Knowledge of nutrition equivalent to HFE100.
Recommended prerequisites:

Basic knowledge in physiology and biochemistry.
Mandatory activity:
The first day lecture is mandatory. Active participation in seminars. Both the group presentation and the written exam must be approved.
Group assignment with presentation in plenary. Each presentation shall last for maximum 30 minutes with time for questions afterwards. Presentation is passed or not passed. Written examination (3.0 hrs), counts 100% of the grade, and has to be graded E or better by external and internal sensor. Both the group presentation and the written exam must be passed in order to have the course approved.
Nominal workload:
Lectures: 24 hours. Supervised discussion groups: 24 hours. Preparation, self-study and group work: 102 hours.
