The course starts in early February and ends in early June. There will be a mandatory site appraisal during February. The students will be introduced to: - different political and professional aims as regard to planning and design of streets related to the concept of sustainability. - Overall, functional, physical and socio-cultural framework for planning and design of streets, different methodologies and tools for street planning and principles of architectural street. The course theory part is built around seminars on the following topics: TOPIC 1: OVERALL PLAN ASSUMPTIONS / LOCAL PLAN STATUS THEME 2 . DESIGN PREMISES / PLANNING METHODOLOGY THEME 3. PLANNING / planning process. There will be extensive self-study by study of relevant literature, books, etc. and through working with registration / analyseoppgver and projects.
The students should have knowledge of all aspects of street planning on the basis of what is needed to realize the new professional and political goals of sustainable urban transport and how functional, physical and soiso-cultural conditions may be premises for for design. The students will gain a basis for well academically founded, fact-based viewpoints to substantive issues in this complex field. This includes registration and analysis of a specific urban area and the development of concepts to cater to urban planning and traffic challenges in the project area. Students will show knowledge of landscape architecture and urban planning related issues. Students develop skills in respect to theories, methods and interpretations within urban planning, urban design and urban landscaping. Students will develop expertise in managing own learning and undertake varied tasks with professional integrity and the innovative application of own expertise. They should be able to produce their project ideas by word and visualization on a professional level.orally and visually on a professional level.
The course has two projects:
1. TEAM TASK with about 10 students. The task is a registration and analysis task of a relevant case. The team assignments will form the basis for subsequent projects.
2. PROJECTS with about 5 students. The project themes are primarily based on the individual choice by the student related to the main challenge of the course.

Prerequisites is completed first 3 year study in degree programs M-LA or M-BYREG or equivalent, including LAA 250. On special application the students in 3rd year can also participate.
3-year the study in landscape architecture / bachelor or equivalent, for instance APL270 and LAA270.
Excursion in February and reviews.
Projects. Grading is relate to completed projects and is weighted as follows: a) Team Task: 3/10 b) Project: 6/10 c) Oral presentation: 1/10 d) Individual project may affect the grade positively.
450 hours, essentially by their own efforts at problem solving as an independent study.
