Limits of class size:

25

Minimum 5 students. If there are fewer than 5 students, it will be considered whether the course should be offered with alternative learning methods.

Teaching exam periods:
The course starts in the Spring parallel. The course has teaching/evaluation the the Spring parallel.
Course frequency: Annually
First time: Study year 2022-2023
Preferential right:
Master students in Feed Manufacturing Technology, Animal Science and Aquaculture.
Course contents:
The course targets feed production for domestic production animals (including fish and companion animals). It covers 9 main areas: 1) Sustainable feed manufacturing through innovation; 2) Optimization of feed manufacturing process; 3) Quality control, risk management, feed legislation standards (ISO 9001, HACCP), and production principles 5) Novel ingredients for animal feed manufacturing; 6) Development of new technological solutions and feed products; 7) Steam systems and use of steam as a raw material; 8) Feasibility study, design and construction of a feed plant; 9) Leadership, health, environment and safety in feed production
Learning outcome:

The goal is to give insight into leadership, managing key processes of feed production, risk management related to new product development and innovation.

The student will develop skills that will further profile him/her within feed industry as competent to innovate, manage risks during feed production. In further careers, the students will be able to choose what kind of processes, food additives or new raw materials can be used for new product development to avoid possible risk in feed manufacturing. The course content will build up skills for justifying and assessing goals or methods and forms of evaluation in feed technology processes related to risk of choosing the raw materials or processes. Participation to innovation think-box during exercise and nevertheless communication on feed related issues through daily and short individual / group work tasks, will be considered.

The student will be ready to guide colleagues or students and student groups, or develop new specific topics that are not covered by HFE310.
