Course contents:
Dog breeding, where basic knowledge on breeding goals, both from a sustainable and etical view side. Lectures will include the differen groups of traits, their genetic background, and how they can be included in the operating breeding programs. The lectures focus on both performance traits, utility traits, conformation traits and health traits. Different guest lecturers are contributing within their research areas, and the Norwegian Kennel Club contribute with knowledge on breed standards and other breeding activities in the dog world.
Learning outcome:
The students are expected to use the lectured material to understand what is needed for a better, more etical and sustainable dog breeding. They should as well more detailed, understand the breeding principles and how they can better be included in dog breeding programs.
Learning activities:
The students are supposed to read the lecture material before the weekly lectures
Teaching support:
Weekly lectures, guest lecturers and term paper
Lecture material for each lecture will be updated on Canvas
No speciic background except natural sciences background and interest in dog breeding
Recommended prerequisites:
Mandatory activity:
The students have to be present at term paper presentations by all students.

Evaluation: A-E/failed

20% weight on term paper, 80% weight on oral examination

Students that have taken the old course HFX221, will get 3 credits for this new course
