Units and definitions. A short introduction to coordinate systems, reference frames and map projections. Introduction to the study of instruments, especially hand-held GPS and digital cameras. Simple coordinate calculations and use of GIS. Sources for geographical data. Exercises: Project-oriented with measurements, processing of data and presentation/visualisation.
The course will give an introduction to modern geomatics, applied for civil engineering.This includes knowledge of basic principles and methods. The students should also be able to use common instruments and calculation tools.
Combination of lectures, exercises in the laboratories and practical assignments outdoors.
Supervision in scheduled exercises and through web-based learning.
Lecture notes and notes and papers made available on Fronter.
Theoretical and practical exercises.

Lectures: 26 hours. Exercises: 52 hours.
The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidate¿s exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
