Basic fundamental thermodynamics concepts and its application in different scenarios. Introduction to the energy cycles, ideal and real cycles process and their efficiency.
Students will be given the fundamental of thermodynamics and its applications to the energy industry world. Students will be taught to describe, understand and calculate various forms of energy transport and work-producing and work-consuming cyclic processes. The student is to be able to apply the necessary thermodynamics and other general physics in order to understand how we can make the most of our energy resources and use various energy transformation principles.
The lectures will cover main ideas and theories of energy physics and closely related topics, it will give the baisc tools for the student to address different problems and situations. In excecises, the students will solve related problems to the field, using mathematical tools. The concepts in the lecture will serve as guide for adressing the problems.
Students will be able to meet the teacher during one day a week for 2 hours in order to discuss theory or concepts. Problems could also be discussed if there is no other topic to be adressed. The day and time will be given by the teacher at the beginning of the course.
An overview based on mainly English texts will be available at the beginning of the course.

Written exam (2.5 hours).
For 7-8 weeks: Lectures: 2 x 2 hours per week. Exercises: 1 x 2 hours per week. Individual work an group discussions: 15 hours per week for 7-8 weeks. Total of 300 hours.

The external and internal examiner jointly prepare the exam questions and the correction manual. The external examiner reviews the internal examiner's examination results by correcting a random sample of candidate's exams as a calibration according to the Department's guidelines for examination markings.
