Topics to be covered in the course:

  • Resource availability and methods for assessing resource availability
  • Conversion technologies for bioheat, biopower and biofuel
  • Raw material and end use markets
  • Profitability analysis, uncertainty and risk
  • Policies for bioenergy
  • Bioenergy and climate effects
Learning outcome:

A candidate who has completed this course should have the following learning outcomes of the course:

Knowledge: The student should have a thorough knowledge of business and socio- economic aspects related to bioenergy production, and effects on the carbon cycle and climate from the use of bioenergy. The course also provides insight into key technologies for the production of bioenergy and societal issues related to the use of biomass for energy purposes.

Skills: Students will learn to apply methods and models for conducting economic analyzes related to bioenergy. The student should carry out an analysis of optimal operation of bioenergy systems and analyze climatic effects of bioenergy use . Students will learn to evaluate the quality of various types of biomass for energy purposes.

General competence: The student shall after the course be able to communicate and discuss issues related to economic, technological, climate and environmental aspects of bioenergy. The student should be able to to communicate bioenergy issues covered in the course with both specialists and the general public.
