There has to be a minimum of 5 students from the master study in public health signed up for the course in order for it to be offered.

The course starts in late May and continues through to the end of June. The term paper is to be handed in by the end of August.

The course is offered as "Frie Emner" at ILP, NMBU. All teaching is going on as part of an intensive at University of Western Ontario, Canada. This intensive course lasts for 4 weeks.
This course will explore advanced topics in Global and Local issues in occupation, specifically in relationship to the promotion of health, participation, and well-being of the general and vulnerable populations in the community. Students will explore culture and diversity, occupation as a social determinant of health and wellbeing, how occupational injustices and possibilities are shaped within context and structure, and how occupational transitions are constrain or supported. In addition this course will engage students in international knowledge exchange to promote the exploration of relevant theories in research in occupational science. These topics will provide students with a basis for identifying and reflecting on the realm of macro level influences in society impact upon the occupational potential and possibilities for achieving health and wellbeing of populations within local and global contexts.
After completing this course the students will have knowledge about occupational and critical theories that support an understanding of the systems, cultural, political, and social and occupational determinants of health and well-being of people in global and community contexts. They will have skills in critically discussing cultural, political, social and occupational determinants of health and well-being. They will have imroved their competence in developing theoretically and evidence informed policies, networks and the intersectional participation of individuals, agencies, and organizations to address challenges and to advocate for change that results in improved community health and participation outcomes.
Seminars, lectures, presentations, excursions and self organized studying will support the preparation of a term paper where the skills mentioned in the subejects learning goals are measured.
The teachers will be available via Fronter and on e-mail between the teaching periods.

Oral presentation to the students and teachers at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Participation in seminars. Longitudinal, written term paper.
Longditudinal, individual written term paper which counts 100 % of the grade. Graded A - F.
The estimated work load is 300 hours, of which 40 hours will be reserved for seminars.
Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse).
All elements of the teaching is administrated by the University of Western Ontario, Canada. The exam and grading is administrated by NMBU.

The sensor will approve the method of evaluation, that is, approve the assignment given for the exam. The sensor will also be participating in the grading of the term paper.
