Course contents:
This course covers the basics of academic writing. Half of the course concentrates on structure specifically, how to outline expository, argumentative and analytical papers. The other half focuses on style: how to write clearly, cohesively, and concisely. Re-writing is emphasized. The students will receive comments on their writing assignments. Class attendance and weekly writing assignments are mandatory.

The objective is to help undergraduate students develop writing skills for term papers.

Recommended prerequisites:
Mandatory activity:
Students must attend at least 10 lectures, including the last. In addition, students must pass at least 10 weekly assignments, including the 3 final papers: expository, compare and contrast, and argumentative.
There is no final exam, rather, the student must pass the three final papers (expository, compare and contrast, and argumentative), which must be submitted in ENGLISH.
Nominal workload:
The total workload for the students will be about 300 hours.

Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse)
Reduction of credits:
LNG240 10 ECTS
Type of course:
Lectures and discussions: 26 hours. In addition, the students complete several writing assignments.
An external examiner will not be involved in grading weekly writing assignments - however, more than one internal reviewer will evaluate the student's three final papers.
