Course contents:
The following topics are covered: non-cooperative game theory, oligopoly, product differentiation, vertical relations, price discrimination and auctions.
Learning outcome:
The course aims at providing the students with economic concepts and analytical tools required for understanding, explaining and analyzing market behavior, market structure and market power, and the interplay between the market conditions and strategic behavior. The use of game theory is emphasized.
Learning activities:
The course is organized with lectures combined with seminar problems where the students test their understanding of the curriculum on various problems.

Syllabus:
P. Belleflamme and M. Peitz (2010): 'Industrial Organization'. (First or second edition)
Prerequisites:
Intermediate microeconomics (ECN211/210). Mathematics at the level of ECN302.
Recommended prerequisites:
ECN311.
Assessment:
Written examination, 3 hours (100%). 
Nominal workload:
Normalized effort is 150 hours, of which 36 hours are organized activities, and 114 hours are related to self-study and case work.
Entrance requirements:
Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse)
Reduction of credits:
This course replaces ECN213, a student cannot receive credits for both ECN213 or ECN312.
Type of course:
Lectures: 24 hours. Group discussions: 12 hours.
Examiner:
An external examiner is used to evaluate course content, exam questions and grading guidelines.
