The topic of the lectures in ECN202 is regression analysis using one or more explanatory variables, the construction of models and the testing of hypothesis. An introduction will be given in the use of Excel for econometric analysis. This topic is further treated in ECN201 Econometrics, ECN301 Econometric Methods and BUS321 Empirical analyses of financial- and commodity markets.
ECN202 gives a practical introduction to econometrics with main emphasis on regression analysis. After the course, the students shall be able to use econometrics to analyse different types of data in Excel. The students will be able to construct and estimate models and critically evaluate the results. The main emphasis is the application of econometrics and the interpretation of empirical results.
Lectures and exercises.
Students will have access to the teacher in his office 2 hours per week for questions. Course material will be posted on the course web site.
Textbook will be annonced at the start of the semester.
Basic knowledge in math, statistics and economics: MATH100 Introductory Mathematics or ECN102 Introduction to Mathematics for Economists, STAT100 Statistics, ECN110 Introduction to Microeconomics.
Courses in Economics.
There will be three home assignments, two of which must be approved to take the exam.
Written examination, 3.5 hours (100%)
Minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway (generell studiekompetanse).
Reduction of credits:
ECN201 Econometrics- 5 ECTS, STAT200 Regression Analysis - 5 ECTS.
Type of course:
The course is graded by an internal examiner. External examiner will control the quality of syllabus, questions for the final examination, and principles for the assessment of the examination answers.
