Course contents:

Week 1: Clinic management, Health and Safety in the work place. An introduction to clinic management, principles of prafatibility and inter-professional team work.

Themes that will be reviewed this week is:

  • Prices, basic economy, profits
  • Insurance
  • Drugs and drug management
  • Team work in inter-professional teams
  • Consulation and communication
  • "Fagforbundet" and The Norwegian Vets Association
  • HMS in the work place

Week 2: Leadership and team work: A week dedicated to groupå activities, discussions, lectures.

The main theme of the week is to work through different exercises on team work, collaboration, team leadership, conflict handling, dialogue and communication.

Learning outcome:

Aim

This unit will give the students an introduction to professional life and an understanding of his/her role as a part of a team in the work place. The student will also get a basic introduction to clinic management and economy.

The student will be given an introduction to the different roles a veterinary nurse may have;an employee,a manager and member of a inter-professional team. 

The student will gain understanding and insight into how it is to work in a team with other professionals and the different roles and responsibilities the team members have.

Learning outcome

After this unit the students shall:

  • Be reflected in their role as veterinary nurse in various situations and as a part of a team. This includes be able to reflect on own behavior and actions in a group setting, having learnt about group prosesses and handling important matters such as conflict solving, instilling trust and confidence and communication.
  • Be infomed about society and the professional arena he-/she is about to enter as a graduate, therby being able to make informed and reflected decisions and career choices.
Learning activities:
Both weeks will be held together with the veterinary students in an inter-professional learning environment. There will be some lectures but mostly the learning will be through discussions, group activities with role playing and problem solving. There may be certain individual lectures where the two student groups are seperated. Hence, there will be a combination of theoretical teaching combined with practical and student active teaching sessions.

All sessions and lectures are obligatory. If a student has valid absence exceeding one day a written assignment will have to be completed. Any invalid absence will have to be re-taken the following year.
Assessment:

The student will give a presentation within a theme of the two week course.. The presentations must be passed in order to pass the course.
