Course contents:
This is a course at master level within the subject Innovation dynamics: policy, organisation and actors. The course is mandatory for students enrolled in the Master program in Entrepreneurship and Innovation (M-EI) and an elective course for students of e.g. Nature-based Tourism. The aim of the course is to develop knowledge and skills within the subject focusing on the following areas: innovation and policy dynamics, innovation and co-creation in business, collaborative innovation in clusters, networks and regions, and innovation interplays in public sector organisations. A central theme is the interplay between innovation policy and means on one hand and business actors of innovation and entrepreneurship on the other, including the impact of such dynamics on growth and sustainability in different businesses and settings in our knowledge society. A process-based and interactive understanding of and approach to innovation and enterprise development is applied, where knowledge, learning and collaboration are central - both in theory and practice. Consequently, the teaching form is to a high extent discussion based. Presence during the entire course is a requirement along with detailed preparation in front of each class. Students are expected to contribute substantially in class, through discussions, presentations and analyses by contributing reflective comments, questions and arguments that drive the discussion forward, thereby contributing to enhancing individual and group knowledge and skills in the course subject areas.
Learning outcome:
- has advanced knowledge of central themes, theories, methods and questions within the subject area of innovation interplays with a particular focus on innovation and policy interplay, innovation and co-interplays in companies, cluster, networks and regions as well as in public sector
- has insight into current Norwegian innovation policy, means and development agents
- has overview of knowledge and relationships between different innovation actors and systems at national, regional and local levels
- has knowledge of innovation work, processes and collaboration in private and public sector organisations
- has knowledge of innovation and co-creation for sustainable innovation and learning in business development, networks and clusters
- has knowledge of research based work and assessment of such work
- familiar with requirements for scientific articles and publication, as well as rankings of relevant scientific journals
- knowledge is research based (scientific literature) and practice near (selected examples from real work settings)
- can use academic knowledge and relevant results from research and development work on theoretical and practical questions within innovation and make well-founded decisions
- can assess, analyse and critically srcutinise information sources and utilise these to structure, formulate and argue for and against answers and solutions to theoretical and practical questions
- can work independently and together with others to critically analyse and present existing theories and research articles including developing new questions and solutions
- in teams and under supervision, able to delimit and work out a research- or development theme and write a «research paper» to a relevant journal in line with norms for good research
- can communicate and disseminate arguments, methods and solutions to questions within the course area orally and in writing
- strengthened competence to identify, reflect and respond to challenges within innovation and collaboration at political level, in organisations and for individual actors who operate in this field
- able to apply the mentioned knowledge and skills of the subject in ways that can contribute to fresh thinking and cooperation for innovation and sustainability in private and public sectors
- able to work and learn independently and together with others in such development work and able to transfer and adjust knowledge and skills to new situations and contexts
- master the subjects terminology and forms of expression and be able to communicate this to experts and the general public
Learning activities:
Detailed preparations and self study of assigned literature for each time in class. Teaching, lectures, presentations, class discussions and analyses in plenary. Individual contributions, questions and constructive reflections in class. Participation and contribution at potential Innovation Camp and excursion. Discussion of academic literature and journals, reviews and critical thoughts on articles. Deliveries on assignments given during the course. Work out and write a research paper to a relevant journal of your own choice.

Mandatory activity:
Preparation and presence during the entire course, including excursions and student presentations, are requirements. Rules of absence will be given at the beginning of the course. Mandatory activitites are valid until next time the course is offered.
Assessment:
Grades (A-F) are based on oral contributions in class (counts 40 %) (contributions are specified at course start) and a written group assignment (a "research paper") (counts 60 %). The paper is to be chosen within the course subject.
Both oral activity and written assignment must be passed to pass the course. Re-sit examination in this subject is not offered.
