My main research interest is:
Brownification of lakes in boreal forest areas
Limnological studies related to water quality - with special emphasis on dissolved organic matter (DOM), acidification and relationship between processes in the catchment and lake water
Lake sediments as archives for historical development
Eutrophication of lakes – dynamic nutrient and growth limitation processes, internal and external nutrient sources, impact of climate and light conditions on primary production in lakes
Physical and chemical processes influencing the behavior of micro pollutants (pesticides, trace metals, radio nuclides) in aqueous systems with respect to mobility and bioavailability in freshwaters
I did my master in Limnology at University of Oslo (UiO) in 1987, where my theses was based on a regional survey of 56 lakes in Oslo Østmark - Natural and anthropogenic sources for trace elements and acidification parameters. Luckily, I have been able to follow this study for a long time-period (1983-2021). I received my PhD from University of Oslo (UiO) in limnology in 1995, where I studied the association of micropollutants with components in aqueous systems.
From 1994 I have been employed as an associate professor at NMBU, and from 2003 as a professor in limnology, water quality.
