I am a professor and excellent teaching practitioner in entrepreneurship and innovation.
My research concentrates around the successful practices and strategies of start-ups and entrepreneurial businesses within the food sector, agritech and high-tech entrepreneurship. I am particularly interested in studying how smaller businesses leverage their networks and scarce resources and how they learn to develop a sustainable market for their innovations. I also have a strong pedagogical research portfolio on entrepreneurship education and have been a pioneer nationally to develop this field.
I am also former programme manager and edupreneur of the successful and nationally unique master’s programme in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at NMBU, which attracts students with all disciplinary backgrounds. Ranked as the top master’s programme in the yearly student evaluation “Studiebarometer” survey.
As one of few in the Norwegian academic milieu of entrepreneurship I have own start-up and innovation experience from before joining NMBU. I have also been involved in establishing the TTO at NMBU, now known as Ard Innovation, from 2009-2013. My broad experience contributes to an extra dimension and better understanding of the theory and its’ link to practice. My students really appreciate this dimension in my teaching and supervision.
I have a cross-disciplinary background with a master’s in Food Science from NMBU (former NLH) and a PhD in marketing from BI Norwegian Business School.

Research fields: Entrepreneurial learning in different contexts; Entrepreneurship education and small-scale entrepreneurship, immigrant entrepreneurship; entrepreneurial marketing and business development, consumer led product development in the food area, consumer insights in NPD and start-ups
My broad experience is really coming at hand as an entrepreneurial teacher and researcher; I have developed own methodologies in innovation and consumer insight that I have used in practice based teaching and project facilitation. As one of few in the Norwegian academic milieu of entrepreneurship I have own start-up and innovation experience, which I feel as a valuable asset and resource in teaching others about these subjects. The experience contributes to an extra dimension and better understanding of the theory and its’ link to practice. My students really appreciate this dimension in my teaching, mentoring and supervision.
I have implemented a successful peer-mentoring program at NMBU in cooperation with faculty and with the central pedagogic team and have held 5 courses in “entrepreneurial mentoring” for student peer mentors since 2014. The University and the Learning Centre at NMBU is now discussing how the peer mentoring program could be rolled out and integrated into other NMBU study programmes.
Nationally, the peer mentoring model has served as inspiration and spread to our partners from the Norgesuniversitets-project. At Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL), peer mentoring is implemented in a bachelor course in innovation for engineers, involving over 200 students. At NMBU this model has been used as inspiration for peer mentoring at the master programme in Agroecology and at a basic course in genetics. We were awarded the Education Quality Award for 2018 at Norwegian University of Life Sciences NMBU for the peer mentor programme.
