Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I have a passion for our planet Earth and believe that society needs to steer towards a more sustainable system as quickly as possible. Before coming to NMBU, I studied Geography and fell in love with the rocks, plants, and rivers that nature creates. Later, I realized that only studying climate change and environmental issues is not enough to create solutions. This is why I chose my study programme at NMBU and started a job focused on reducing carbon emissions in a global organisation after completing my degree.
What attracted you to your programme at NMBU?
International Environmental Studies convinced me because of its global focus and the diverse perspectives the programme offered. I also liked that I could shape large parts of the programme myself and tailor my academic journey to my needs and interests within the field of environmental studies.
What was the most memorable part of your studies?
I cannot count all the great moments I had during my time at NMBU, but it was particularly memorable to work on group projects in international and diverse teams. I especially remember standing together in a river to collect samples and supporting each other in analysing the data and presenting it in front of other students and teachers – it was a great experience.
How was the academic and social environment at NMBU?
The social environment at NMBU is very open-minded and welcoming. I experienced great discussions, even when opinions differed, as well as strong academic exchange. The university offers a wide range of social events – so many that it is impossible to attend them all!
How do you use what you learned at NMBU in your current job?
Learning to manage my own projects over several months and working in a team to create results is very important to my current job, where I manage several projects. My knowledge about theoretical concepts and important global regulations and policy processes is also relevant for my work within sustainability in a global company, where the context is often on a continental or country level.
What are your next career plans?
My motivation is to continue driving change towards a more sustainable economy. I plan to stay in this field and find ways to multiply the impact I can have through my work.
Any advice for future students?
I highly recommend doing an internship during your degree in International Environmental Studies. It helped me greatly in applying my knowledge in a practical context and in learning how to transfer academic knowledge and critical thinking into a work environment. My advice is to always stay curious!
