During the spring of 2022, seven students from the class of 2018 choose EDUPROMO projects for their major year. Three of these students will work on a One Health project spearheaded by the Norwegian Veterinary Institutes Hannah Jørgensen dealing with rabies in Malawi, while four will travel to Zambia to work on various questions related to wild life. The students will be given an unique oppurtunity to gain insight in exotic and severe animal and zoonotic diseases, bringing back first hand experiences and knowledge valuable to ensure public and animal health in Norway in the future.
In the current studyprogram, Norwegian veterinary students at NMBU-VET choose a speciality to dive into during their final and senior year. Most students chose to specialize in small animal companion animals, equine medicine or production animal medicine and food safety, but this year a record high number of students chose to spend their final year in a research oriented track called "Project-major". The students will be studying their own given topic related to either rabies or wild animal health and safety. This is made possible by the EDUPROMO project in close collaboration with the NVI project "Improving implementation and operation of a One Health platform to combat rabies in Malawi" and the activities that UNZA and Professor Musso Munyeme has ongoing in national parks and sanctuaries throughout Zambia.
