James Cook University (JCU) is located along the Pacific coast of Queensland. The university has one campus in Cairns (153.000 inhabitants) and one in Townsville (190.000 inhabitants), and offers lectures of high quality in biology, engineering and tourism, among other subjects. JCU has over 16.000 students and an international student environment. A short distance from the Great Barrier Rief and a pleasant Pacific climate offer an exiting base for an exhange program.

Applicants need to have achieved a minimum average grade of C.

Bachelor and Master.

Language requirements
Upper secondary school (norsk: videregående skole): Average grade of 4, or
TOEFL: 79 (internet-based test), with a minimum of 19 within writing, or
IELTS: 6.0 (and no part under 5.5).

Recognition of study credits
12 credits (i.e. four courses of three credits each) is equivalent to 30 credits at NMBU.

Tuition fees
NMBU students get a 15% discount on the Study Abroad tuition fee.

Semester 1: February - June.
Semester 2: July - November.

Accommodation
JCU can offer student rooms. Rotary International House offers private kitchens.

It is possible to live outside campus (Areas close to campus: Douglas, Aitkenvale and Annandale). Townsville is a 20 min. drive from campus.

Visa
For studies of longer than three months in duration, a visa is required. Before applying for a visa, it is necessary to receive a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from the host university. A visa can be applied for electronically, with the advantage that a reply can be expected within 48 hours. As of January 2011, the cost for the application was approximately AUD 550.
