Abstract

For many years, the official test scores from Norwegian national tests in compulsory school showed no change in any subjects. Neither social media nor the pandemic seemed to have any impact on mean skill levels in any of the core subjects: Math, Norwegian and English. As it turned out, this was wrong. Erroneous data and results had been used for public statistics, as feedback to pupils and in research for many years. In this talk Simen Markussen will present how this error was detected, what caused it and how the public authorities reacted when it was discovered.”

This seminar is part of a PhD course by Skatteforsk. The talk is open for all (10:00–11:00). PhD students enrolled in the course participate until 12:00 (group exercises).

More about the course: “Topics in Research Ethics, Methods, and GDPR Compliance” (PHI450).
