Abstract:
Recent estimates suggest that global offshore wealth has remained broadly stable as a share of global GDP since 2001, while its geographical distribution has changed markedly. The presentation outlines the methodology behind the Atlas of the Offshore World estimates and asks whether offshore wealth can still be considered hidden wealth, given the major international efforts to curb offshore tax evasion over the past two decades. It discusses the effectiveness and global reach of automatic exchange of information and highlights the uneven progress towards financial transparency across countries and regions.
