Skatteforsk has successfully initiated and realized the establishment of the Nordic Public Policy Network (NPPN). The need for stronger coordination and information sharing among tax research centers in the Nordic countries was identified several years ago. This year, it became a reality, thanks to financial support from a NordForsk grant.
At the beginning of the year, Skatteforsk—together with the Finnish Centre of Excellence in Tax Research Systems (FiT) in Tampere University and the Uppsala Center for Fiscal Studies in Uppsala University—formally established the NPPN. The primary objective of the NPPN is to provide a platform for dialogue on how tax policy and administration can contribute to fair economic, social, and environmental policies. The Nordic welfare model is currently facing significant challenges, and it is timely to examine how tax policies can support the sustainability of this model.
Skatteforsk serves as the host of both the Secretariat and the official website (which has recently been published) of the NPPN.
The founding members will soon extend invitations to additional research centers to join the network and engage in collaborative activities, including the organization of academic events and PhD-level courses.
A key highlight of the network’s activities is the annual Nordic Public Policy Symposium, which features internationally renowned speakers and presents the latest research and policy developments in the field. This year’s symposium will be held at the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) on 11–12 December 2025. A call for papers will be announced shortly.
The 2026 symposium will be hosted in Finland, and the 2027 edition will take place in Sweden.
