The Medical Genetics Units teaches veterinary students about genetic mechanisms that affect health, welfare and production in animals and fish.

The unit’s research is oriented to map which genes affect traits and to obtain new knowledge about how these genes are regulated and expressed.

The unit provides guidance regarding genetic testing for diseases in animals and has identified individuals, breeds, species and populations with DNA technology (for instance in case of doubt about pedigree / fauna crime / criminal cases).
