Financial requirements
International students must document their ability to finance their stay in Norway and to pay tuition fees.
When you apply, financing must be documented in one of the following ways:
- A recent official bank statement in the applicant's name.
- A sponsor guarantee letter and sponsor’s recent official bank statement. The sponsor should be aware that the required amount must be available as soon as the applicant is admitted. Sponsor's letter and documentation must be submitted in the application portal by the applicant. We do not require a specific format for the sponsor letter.
- A letter confirming that you are eligible for a scholarship/student loan from your home country.
The amount is set by the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) and is NOK 137 907 (one hundred and thirty-seven thousand nine hundred and seven) for the academic year 2023/2024. The amount is subject to change annually. The required amount can be documented in the currency of your choice.
The Norwegian Directorate of Immigration (UDI) requires that citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA area and Switzerland can provide documentation of financial ability, i.e. a minimum amount of money required to cover living expenses for each academic year in Norway.
Please note that applicants who do not provide satisfactory documentation of financing within the application deadline will be considered ineligible for admission regardless of their academic qualifications.
If you are offered admission, UDI will require the amount to be transferred to your own Norwegian bank account or the university's account, if you do not have your own, in connection with the student residence permit application. Instructions for the funds transfer are provided with the admission offer. The deadline to transfer funds is 15 May. If applicant fails to meeting the deadline, the admission offer will be withdrawn.
