Instructions for funds transfer

International students must document sufficient funds when applying for the study permit. After being accepted at NMBU, new students must transfer funds to a Norwegian bank account. To facilitate the transfer of funds, the university offers a service whereby funds can be transferred to a bank account administrated by he University Foundation for Student Life (SiÅS) .   • Transfer Amount for economic funds

    For the academic year 2025/2026 the immigrations authorities require documentation of financing in the amount of NOK 166 859. Double degree students studying only one semester at NMBU, can transfer funds for the relevant semester. The financing amount is NOK 75 845 for the autumn semester in 2025 and NOK 91 014 for the spring semester in 2026. The student shall bear transaction costs charged by all banks. SiÅS will provide confirmation once the funds are received in Norway for the study permit application.

    Each year UDI increases the amount. For the academic year 25/26 the amount is NOK 166 859. Since applicants received admission before the new amount is published, UDI accepts the amount for the previous year.

  • Accepted currencies

    Transfers in other currencies is permitted, such as transfer in USD $ or EURO €.
    Upon receipt, the bank will automatically convert funds to NOK for a fee of 100 - 200 NOK. On the day of the transfer, your bank should be able to make the currency conversion, but you can also check the DNB Currency Converter.

  • Deadline

    The funds must be transferred in one installment no later than 15 May to start the study permit process. NMBU and SiÅS take no responsibility for funds that cannot be identified or have been transferred after the deadline.

    If the student fails to obtain a residence permit, the funds will be transferred back to the student.

    Mark the payment with your “Applicant No.", your "Student No." or "Customer number with SiÅs" and your FULL name. If someone is paying on your behalf, make sure that they include this information in the bank transfer.

    Email the transfer receipt to studyfunds@sias.no clearly labeled with your applicant or student number.

  • Access to Funds

    Once funds are transferred to the SiÅs account, funds can be accessed in the following ways ONLY:

    • Prepaid debit card can be requested. The cost of the card is NOK 600-, and a usage fee of NOK 10,-/month. Please note that once you have received the card, it cannot be returned to SiÅs and exchanged back for cash or transferred to another bank account.
    • After arrival in Norway and the student opens an account, the funds can be transferred to the student's Norwegian bank account minus any applicable bank fees.
    • Funds are returned to home bank account if study permit is not granted.
    • Students living in SiÅs' housing authorize payment of rent. See section on Prepayment of rent.
  • Prepayment of Rent

    Housing is organized through the University Foundation for Student Life (SiÅS) and is a separate organization from NMBU. You can use part of these funds towards your house rent. A form is provided by SiÅs (Arrival form) to authorise the housing payment from your funds. Any questions regarding payment for accommodation should be directed to the housing office at the University Foundation for Student Life: utleie@sias.no.
