Quality Enhancement and Assurance of Study Programmes on Bachelor’s and Master’s Level

The programmes of study are the core of NMBU’s educational activities. As a university, NMBU has the authority to decide which study programmes and disciplines the institution shall provide on all levels.

NMBU is therefore alone responsible for the quality of the studies that the institution provides, including continuously assuring and developing the quality in the programmes, revealing lacking quality and assuring documentation of the work. This requires a satisfactory internal system for quality assurance in accordance with the Act relating to universities and university colleges.

The continuous professional programme development at the Faculties drives the quality enhancement at the University. To ensure a coherent framework for the work, NMBU has the following guidelines and procedures associated with the quality enhancement and assurance of its study programmes:

  • NMBU is responsible for the quality of all studies offered at the University and that the studies at all times meet all requirements of the Ministry of Education and the NOKUT regulations and the NMBU regulations. In addition, institutional guidelines and requirements are laid down in strategies and plans. There are therefore a number of frameworks that demand requirements regarding content, structure and description of study programmes, requirements for the academic environment around the programme, requirements for the subjects included in the programme and a number of other matters.

The total requirements for all NMBU study programmes at any time are summarized in two documents:

Guidelines - Requirements for non-degree granting studies of 60 study points or more (to be translated to English)

Further information on requirements for programmes of study is available on the Norwegian page.

  • NMBU's programme portfolio is renewed annually. The University Board approves the portfolio for the study year to come at their meeting in November/December. As a university, NMBU has the authority to decide which study programmes and disciplines the institution shall provide on all levels and can establish and terminate studies at all levels. The Board approves establishment and termination of programmes of study of at least 60 study points.

Further information is available on the Norwegian page.

  • The authorities require that the institutions regularly check that the studies they offer meet the quality requirements. All requirements for programmes of study at NMBU can be found in the document "Guidelines. Requirements for degree granting programmes at NMBU" above.

More information is available on the Norwegian page.
