This course is the welcome course for EMABG students starting at NMBU. It aims to give an introduction to the EMABG program and selected fields related to the study tracks. During the first week there will be lectures on general topics relevant for the program and specific topics, such as phenomics, genomic selection and genetic diversity. The second week there will be an excursion and case studies. The third and last week, there will be an introduction course to R.

The students will gain a basic knowledge of the general topics presented and understand:

  • The partner universities
  • How relevant breeding organisations work
  • How phenotyping is used in animal breeding
  • How genomic selection and genomic tools have an impact on animal breeding.
  • Livestock production in rural areas
  • How R can be used to analyse biological data
